Folks, here is what I am able to gather by self employment
(1) One can be self employed
(2) 1099 or w2 - kinda tricky - most people I talked to do w2 and any profits they get after they take their salary are bonuses
(3) The job has to be legitimate - in the same or similar category - you must be doing duties that are similar in nature to your 140 petition
(4) What is meant by legitimate is - you must simply not be doing "nothing" - there must be income and you must be doing your duties.
Correct me if I am wrong

If you expect the IV core to dedicate it's time JUST for a particular secction of people, then you need to justify that demand.
In your opinion, EB3 is a LOWLY category as compared to EB2. So it is not enough that Nurses feed from it and just about EVERYONE else feeds from it. To top it off, overflow from eb1 goes FIRST to eb2 and then (and almost NEVER) to eb3. SO Eb2 gets a fair chunk of the greed cards, and over and above that you now want the IV core to further drop everything else and help JUST eb2 out? And who should make this demand? None other than someone who is trying to BREAK the community up into Eb2 vs Eb3.

Although the thread title says "Reimburse the core team" and I know that the core team will not take any money (and do not expect the memebrs to reimburse them) from the fund that we are planning on creating here...Stilll by contributing to this fund we can make sure that core does not have to bear any out of pocket personal expense in future while working on "our" goal.
Lets see how many of us are actually inetested in contributing. Once we have the number we can set a realistic goal and divide amongst ourselves.
For that I suggest we give this thread good two days to develop and check other members responses...
So here is a chance for everyone to contribute to our own goal. Lets keep this going. Who ever is interested pls reply. I will do a final count after 2 days as suggested and take it from there....

Totally agreed that quota increase is controversial and an alternative approach must be agreed upon - 1932, CIR and now SKIL has taught us that bitter lesson. I am not by any means questioning the wisdom of going after the low-hanging fruits like 485 filing etc. All I am saying is - we cannot assume everything else remains the same. Things like 485 filing etc are our niche goals - no corporate interest is served by that and in a brutally capitalistic country thats a huge disadvantage.The fact is ANY relief, whether it includes quota increase or not, still takes a lot of lobbying and money to introduce all on its own strength.Yours and mine promotion/career prospects are the least of the lawmakers' worries, however non-controversial it may be and however deserving we may be. The need of the hour is to increase our membership base and contributions - lets face it, 200k in funds is not going to get us too far on our own steam. If 6000 of us could achieve so much in an year, imagine what 100k will do. That way we will be a credible enough force to be heard and respected. It still beats me how we have only 6000 odd members despite the dire situation that the majority of EB applicants find themselves in since 2001.
Dixie, I am not denying that lobbying takes effort time and money. So far however we HAVE convinced the lawmakers about our plight. All I am saying is, we should ask for provisions that our anti-immigrant friends will possibly not object strongly to. It is not simply a matter of promotions and career advancement anymore. The IV core team already has points about the same and have been meeting lawmakers regularly. My point here is that maybe it is time to take a little step back and realize that at this stage just having yearly EADs is SO MUCH of a blessing for both the individual AND the spouse (if applicable). in trouble. I am not on H1 but I think the moment you get H1, in this case COS from H4 to H1 within few months you should have paying job. There will be problem at time of extension if no paystubs are present. Bench or not employer need to Pay H1b if he has hired one.
But as of now he is not paying me any thing. so is there any thing that I can do about it?

Sreeanne is correct. We had one friend who died in 9-11 and his wife and kid got visa to stay back for few years until she finished her paperwork. Plan for 2-3 options for your family, and just dont depend on continuing GC.

Section 202 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) states that the per-country limit for preference immigrants is set at 7% of the total annual employment-based preference limits. This means a country with large population like India and a tiny country like Lichtenstein get same number of visa numbers. This system is designed to systematically discriminate people from India and China by preventing them from attaining employment visas. Is this rally still on? On 14th? Then please update the first post on this thread which still says July 7th - it is confusing.
Also, considering that there are only 4 more days to the rally if it is on 14th, we need considerably more publicity in the media and on blogs on this.
This rally will be a watershed event because as far as I know, this would be the first of its kind by skilled, legal immigrants and it should get the media attention that it deserves.

Also - emailed both personal contacts at my state senators offices with whom I (and a group of other state members) visited over the last month and a half to re-iterate general IV goals and to state strong opposition to S1348.
I have received personal responses back from both Feinstein and Boxer at this point.
